THE FOREST SPIRITS
The Spirit of Fungi

New collection presented at Maison & Objet
It is winter, when the nights become cooler and the days shorter. This is usually the time when historically people say The Forest Spirits come out. These magical beings are present in the folklore of many different cultures - from the Italian Silvanus to the Slavic Borovit.
When I was a kid I spent a lot of time surrounded by nature and I often imagined that there are some fantastic creatures living in the forests, peacefully coexisting with us. Due to the popularity and presence of this concept in many cultures ‘fairy tales’, regardless of our origins, I wanted to transport you inside of your imagination, to your own childhood memories.
Celebrating nature’s diversity and beauty is a very important message that I transmit through my work. Whenever I can become nature’s spokesperson - I seize the opportunity. For this project, I brought to life my personal version of The Forest Spirits - friendly but feisty creatures who make sure that the forest nature is protected and all of its ecosystems works.
The Forest Spirits are mystical and frankly not easy to find. The first of this family is called The Spirit of Fungi. It protects the mushroom kingdom, which is essential for life on earth, especially in the forests. Every day we discover new amazing properties of mushrooms. They come in many different shapes, sizes and colors, completely unique, like all living things on earth.
The next two spirits from the family, are uniquely linked to each other. The second of the family is called Spirit of the Seeds. He finds the best seeds, protects them and makes sure that all the plants in the forest have something to germinate from. Between us, he is extremely charismatic and clever - so everyone wants to share their seeds with him. Sometimes he forgets where he has hidden them, but that is part of his job - thanks to his distracted nature, plants sprout in the most unexpected places in the forest.
The third is called Spirit of the Trees - he knows all the varieties of plants and works closely with the Spirit of the Seeds, to make the forest flora as diverse as possible. He surrounds all sprouting seeds with care so that they can grow into magnificent trees and bushes. He lives in hollows in tree trunks, from where he can oversee the whole process. Because of this, and because of his spectacular eyebrows, he is often mistaken for an owl.
